The Magic Formula for Fall

 So we fashionistas always have to be looking ahead to the new season. It is sweltering today but all too soon sweaters and jackets will be the required attire.

This Zenergy jacket needs to be in my closet because I love this look! I can see myself going to the grocery or to the gym in this outfit. (black yoga pants anyone?) The jacket is neutral and would also look great with navy or brown. Any pants will work but I prefer full length to keep the eye moving down the leg. Black sneakers would also be elongating. The jacket, tank and pants are from Chico's. The other items live in my own closet!

Here is a classic tweed jacket in a look that would be perfect for dinner, theater or birthday celebration. This tweed jacket is a forever favorite. Yes, I wear things like this out in W-S all the time. Yes, I am overdressed but ask me if  I am bothered by it. NOPE! Let's show the younger crowd how to look nice. Classy never goes out of style. Finally a dress-the jersey maxi! It seemed that this formula should work when I spied the dress. As I clicked through the photos, it seemed the Chico's designers thought of it first and thoughtfully provided a photo.

Please notice her shoes! Caramel or skin tone shoes continue the visual line and elongate the leg. Caramel shoes go with everything. I've been wearing caramel sandals all summer with ivory, pink, navy, and prints. I am looking for a pair for fall. Let me know if you see something cute!

The Magic Formula (for looking thin)

 Do you like to wear horizontal stripes? I can almost hear you reciting the reasons you hate them! Yes, they do cut across the body and can add visual weight. Okay let's apply this principle in the OTHER direction. What about vertical stripes? Might they be slimming? You bet! The eye travels up and down, not side to side. This is the foundation of this secret-a vertical column of color.

Here is the basic (and easy) idea. Start any outfit with a matching top and bottom. My favorite neutral is navy blue so I would match a navy top and bottom. It is a great use of Chico's microfiber tank.

Trust me here! You aren't going to be showing bare arms. Now the magic starts! Just add ANY coordinating top. Anything that opens in the front that will reveal a bit of the navy from neck to hem.

Here is a summer versions of this same easy formula! I used a full length blouse and these High Rise Wide Leg jeans. And it works perfectly well without the belt. (Belts are having a fashion moment this season).
